The Q to Q Ferry contributes to the City of New Westminster’s Seven Bold Steps on Climate Action by offering an alternative to driving and enabling people who are walking or cycling to connect between downtown New Westminster and Queensborough. The City is committed to maintaining this connection to serve residents and businesses.

Following a temporary suspension of service due to the pandemic, the ferry re-started on November 12th, 2020. The service currently operates Monday-Friday 6:00 9:15 am and 3:00–7:15 pm, and weekends and statutory holidays 11:00 am–5:00 pm. Click here for more information and the full ferry schedule.

We’ve heard feedback from community members that the current schedule may not be meeting the needs of the majority of users. Recognizing that the approved budget allows for the service to run for a maximum of eight hours per day on weekdays and six hours on weekends, we are open to adjusting the schedule to meet the broader needs of the community. However, there is currently no room to expand the number of hours of service. Due to shift scheduling, each block needs to be approximately four hours to accommodate staffing.

This brief survey is your opportunity to let us know what schedule would best meet your needs. Once the survey is complete, we will review the results and consider the schedule that will best meet the needs of the community, within the hours available. Unless there is an obvious clear choice, we will continue with the existing schedule (with minor modifications so the morning and afternoon schedules will each be four-hour blocks).

Please note, it is anticipated that the schedule selected through this process will be in place for the remainder of 2021.

The information collected in this survey and poll will be used to consider potential adjustments to the ferry schedule. The survey deadline is March 24, 2021.

Staff will report back the survey results and any potential schedule changes in April 2021.
