Consultation has concluded

Project Update, January 2022: At its January 10, 2022 regular meeting, City Council endorsed the continuation of the Alcohol in Parks program. Click here to review the Council report and meeting recording.

Next steps approved by Council include improvements to:

  1. Onsite signage locations and information;

  2. Number, type, location and servicing of waste and recycling receptacles;

  3. Where and how additional seating may be accommodated in the designated zones;

  4. How to receive feedback from those who book picnic shelters;

  5. Monitoring of each park to ensure they are safe and welcoming for all.

The City is seeking community feedback on the new program that allows alcohol consumption in several local parks. This pilot program, which has been in place since May 18, 2021, enables adults to drink responsibly within designated areas in seven New Westminster parks:

  1. Grimston Park
  2. Hume Park
  3. Moody Park
  4. Port Royal Park
  5. Queen's Park
  6. Sapperton Park
  7. Westminster Pier Park

Alcohol consumption in these parks is permitted between 11:00 am until dusk, seven days a week, for those 19+.

Now that the summer season has wrapped up, we would like to know if you took advantage of the new program and how you feel the experience has been.


How can I participate?

A short survey has been launched to gather your feedback. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete, and will be open until October 27, 2021.
